he University of Dar es salaam is the oldest and biggest public university in Tanzania. It is situated on the western side of the city of Dar es salaam, occupying 1,625 acres on the observation hill, 13 kilometers from the city centre.
It was established on 1st July 1970, through parliament act no. 12 of 1970 and all the enabling legal instruments of the constituent colleges. Prior to 1970, the university college, Dar es Salaam had started on 1st July 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. It had only one faculty- the faculty of Law, with 13 students.
In 1963 it became a constituent college of the university of East Africa together with Makerere University College in Uganda and Nairobi University College in Kenya. Since 1961, the University of Dar es Salaam has grown in terms of student intake, academic units and academic programmes.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

1. The minimum number of students required for any particular undergraduate degree programme to run shall be ten. Departments wishing to run programmes with less than ten students shall first obtain special permission from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). Announcement of Postgraduate Admissions for 2015/2016 Academic Year

The University of Dar es Salaam would like to announce that the following applicants have been selected to join various postgraduate programmes for the 2015/2016 academic year. The orientation week and registration processes for new students at UDSM Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Main Campus will start on Monday12th October 2015 as stipulated in the admission letters.

For those applicants selected for admission into the Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS), Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) and Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE) should report directly at the respective campuses in Zanzibar, Chang’ombe and Iringa on the same date. Joining instructions and admission letters should be collected at the UDSM Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere Main Campus, IMS, DUCE and MUCE depending on where one is admitted.
