The school has 150 boarders.[1] It offers a full range of courses from pre-kindergarten to International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Haven of Peace Academy is a Christian International School, situated in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, East Africa with 340 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. HOPAC brings together a rich blend of students from 30+ different countries and a variety of religious backgrounds including Christian, Muslim and Hindu. While the majority of students come from families of missionaries and the expatriate community, one third are Tanzanian. The school’s mission statement is “to provide an excellent, Christ-centered, international education that meets western academic standards and equips students to live out a biblical worldview in all areas of life to the glory of God.”
HOPAC was founded by missionaries from several organizations who saw the need for affordable, western standard, Christian education for their children. The first school year commenced March 1994 with 4 teachers and 40 students ranging from Reception to Grade 6.
In the 2001/2 academic year, the school moved to its current campus which consists of 17 acres (69,000 m2) and overlooks the Indian Ocean on the north side of Dar es Salaam. The school continued to extend the grades beyond 6th so that by the academic year 2007/8 the first Grade 12 class graduated. Most of the school’s teachers serve as unpaid volunteers and are sent by various Christian mission organizations and churches.
HOPAC uses the IGCSE and AS/A level system from Cambridge International Examinations (CIEs) with exams taken in May/June for Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. The subjects offered for IGCSE include History, Geography, Mathematics, Bible, English (language and literature), ICT, French, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The subjects offered for the AS/A Level course include History, Geography, Mathematics, English Literature, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Economics, Computer Science and Psychology. Additionally the school offers extra curricular activities such as Music, P.E, Photography, Art, Service Learning, and Drama.

Patandi Teachers’ College of Special Needs Education is a college with a unique history and Specialization. It is the only
college in Tanzania that offers Special Needs Education at Higher Diploma level. The history of Patandi Teacher’ College dates back to 1996,when the Government decided to move the training from Tabora Teacher’ College.This decision was made through the general National Conference on Special Needs Education held at Arusha International Conference Centre in 1992.
